The Grape Disease & Pest Management Workshop will review the major disease and insect problems for Pennsylvania grape growers and seeks to address them with current research and recommendations from Extension educators.

Speakers include research and extension staff from Penn State. The workshop will address the recent changes to the EPA Worker Protection Standard Regulations.

Jim Harvey has been the Worker Protection Standard specialist since 2004 and he will work through the highlights of the revised EPA’s Worker Protection Standard section by section. Particular emphasis will be placed on explaining the respirator Fit Test procedure and the Application Exclusion Zone. Jim will demonstrate the use of a powered air- purifying respirator to show an alternative respirator for Handlers with facial hair, which cannot pass the Fit test.

At the Berks and Erie locations, Penn State grape pathologists will offer a review session on spray programs as a service to grape growers before the beginning of the meeting.
