PLEASE CONTACT THE PLANNER DIRECTLY IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS.The nation cannot afford NOT to protect the Great Lakes—they are the source of drinking water for 30 million people! With your help, the effort to restore the Great Lakes has made significant progress. In this first year of a new Presidential Administration we have work to do together to ensure that funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) remains intact in 2017 and beyond. President Trump has expressed support for Great Lakes restoration and we look forward to working with his administration to keep making progress for our region. Please plan on attending Great Lakes Day 2017, March 15-16 in Washington, D.C. Your help is essential in holding the line against cuts to essential Great Lakes programs. As federal public officials continue to discuss how to balance the federal budget, there is tremendous pressure to cut programs, including those that are vital to restore and protect the Great Lakes. Great Lakes Day participants will stand up for a resource that more than 30 million people depend on for their drinking water, jobs, health, and way of life.Over the past eight years, Great Lakes advocates have been instrumental in winning more than $1 billion in federal support to clean up toxic hot spots, restore critical habitat, and confront invasive species through programs like the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. GLRI funding is already reaping huge benefits for the region by cleaning up the lakes, enhancing job creation, and supporting the economy in the Great Lakes states —but there is more work to do. We won’t quit until we’ve put an end to drinking water restrictions, beach closings and fish consumption advisories. These accomplishments are significant. But our work is not done. That’s why it’s more important than ever to attend Great Lakes Day 2017, March 15-16.We must make sure that the new administration and congressional decision-makers in Washington, D.C., support Great Lakes restoration programs. We won’t quit until we’ve put an end to drinking water restrictions, beach closings and fish consumption advisories. Your presence at Great Lakes Day 2017 will help us do that.At Great Lakes Day, you will be briefed on what the new administration means for critical issues facing the Great Lakes, attend training sessions to become a more effective advocate, and urge members of Congress to support Great Lakes restoration.
