Workshop Description

We all know that professional care-giving is a rewarding experience. However, sometimes the role of a paediatric haematology/oncology professional comes at a cost. The cost of care-giving can result in low emotional reservoirs that can jeopardize the health care practitioners own sense of self, the ability to manage stress and can ultimately affect the quality and safety of patient care. This workshop provides paediatric haematology/oncology professionals the opportunity to explore resiliency and self-care through self-assessments, individualized self-care planning and participation in a variety of experiential learning opportunities that strengthen resiliency by guarding against compassion fatigue, moral distress, vicarious trauma, and burnout.

Participants will receive instruction on these potential topics:

  • Self-inventory
  • Navigating the current practice environment
  • Stress
  • Loss and Grief
  • Compassion Fatigue and Burnout
  • Empowerment
  • Resiliency
  • Spirituality
  • Self-care planning
