The State Laboratories Division (SLD) conducts laboratory testing in support of environmental and public health programs statewide. Consultation, licensing, and other related laboratory services focused on environmental health and communicable disease control are provided to various federal, state, city, county, and private organizations.  The SLD also conducts research, laboratory science investigations, and participates in emergency response efforts such as bio-terrorism preparedness and monitoring air quality effects of volcanic activity.

The Hawaii State Laboratories workforce consists almost 100 laboratory professionals and support staff. They have 8 Ph.D. chemists and 2 Ph.D. microbiologists. There are numerous master's prepared laboratorians, and many hold state & national certifications and licenses.

Primary Areas of Interest  (Based on previous attendees):  Pipettors/Tips, ELISA, DNA sequencing, Plasticware/Glassware, PCR, Electrophoresis, HPLC/LCMS Columns, DNA Purification, Enzymes/Reagents, QPCR/RTPCR, Sample Storage & ID, Western Blot, Peptides, RNA Purification.

Primary Science Specialties  (Based on previous attendees):  Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Virology, Molecular Biology, Diagnostics, Lab Automation, Genetics, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Immunology, Cell Signaling/Transduction, Organic Chemistry, Bioinformatics.
