A healthy population is the cornerstone of a strong economy, and good health begins in childhood. Addressing critical health challenges, particularly those affecting children, not only improves a community's quality of life but also helps build a healthy, stable workforce for the future. The Appalachian Regional Commission's September 2011 Healthy Families: Healthy Future conference will bring together health experts and community leaders to examine key health issues and highlight successful health-care programs in Appalachia, with a special focus on children and families.
Topics will include:
- Expanding health-care access for children
- Creating community-based approaches to disease prevention
- Preventing substance abuse among adolescents
- Improving children’s oral health
- Using information technology to improve the quality of health care

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Online registration for the Healthy Families: Healthy Future conference ended August 31. On-site registration at the conference will be accepted as space permits beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7. On-site registration on September 7 will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Mountain Arts Center; on-site registration on September 8 will be from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park.
The registration fee for the full conference is $175.00. The fee includes conference materials; meals; events: and shuttle transportation between the Prestonsburg conference hotels and conference events. (See the conference agenda for detailed information).
