Questions & Answers

Question: How do I know I am registered?
Answer: You will be officially enrolled in the program(s) of your choice as soon as we receive your registration form and payment and you receive a confirmation email.  If you enroll in one of our on-demand online programs, your confirmation email will include information on how to access your online program.

We will notify you by email if there is a problem with your registration or if there are changes about which you should know. William James College reserves the right to cancel programs that are under-enrolled, to change times and locations if necessary, and to substitute instructors.
Question: What is Canvas/Instructure?
Answer: Canvas is the name of the learning management system that William James College uses to store all Continuing Education online components. Instructure is Canvas’s parent company. You might receive an e-mail or two from Canvas or Instructure, particularly to set up your account. If you do not see an e-mail in your Inbox, be sure to check your Junk Mail folder.
Question: What is Moodle?
Answer: Moodle is our former learning management system. We are no longer using Moodle for any Continuing Education online courses; they are solely accessed through Canvas. Even if you had previously set up a Moodle account, if you have not taken an online or blended Continuing Education course at William James College since April 2017, you will need to create a Canvas account.
Question: What website should I use to access my course(s)?
Answer: Before the course begins, you will be sent an enrollment link that is to be used one time. After you are enrolled in the course, you can access your courses through our Canvas website: https://williamjames.instructure.com/. We strongly encourage you to bookmark this page for your convenience. After logging in, all courses that you are currently enrolled in will be displayed on your Dashboard.
Question: Where do I get my enrollment link?
Answer: You will automatically receive an enrollment link upon registering for a course. This will be included in the confirmation e-mail sent after you enroll in a course. If you sign up for more than one course,  you will receive separate confirmation e-mails with specific enrollment links for each course. If you do not receive these e-mails, please check your Junk Mail folder and its settings.
Question: How do I change my William James College Canvas password?
Answer: Once you set your password for a William James College Continuing Education online course, that will be the password for the lifetime of the account unless you change it.

If you ever forget your password and cannot log into Canvas, the first step you should take is to click "Forgot Password?" on the Log In page, https://williamjames.instructure.com/. This can be found right under where you would fill in your e-mail and password. Once you have done that, you will be sent an e-mail from Canvas/Instructure. If you do not received it, be sure to check that you have entered the correct e-mail address and that the e-mail hasn't been delivered to your Junk Mail inbox.

Follow the steps illustrated in the e-mail and you should be all set!

Question: How long do I have access to my course?
Answer: You will only have access to the course for the dates listed on your registration. For this reason, if you want to access the course materials for future reference, we suggest you download and save all readings and resources to your computer before you lose access to the course.
Question: I have more Canvas and EdTech related questions! Who should I contact?
Answer: The Canvas Guides can be a great place to start for many of your questions! To access the Canvas Guides, once you have logged into Canvas, go to Help in your Global Navigation Bar.
