This interactive training will offer attendees an up-to-date and comprehensive guide to HIV/AIDS. Modules include an overview of current epidemiological data, biological basics of the virus, medical treatment including information about adherence and resistance, current models of risk and risk reduction including Harm Reduction, psychosocial issues experienced by persons with HIV including issues related to substance use. Vignettes are used to illustrate therapeutic dilemmas and interventions. Evidence Based Practices Motivational Interviewing, Seeking Safety and Cognitive Behavioral techniques are used in intervention models. In addition the participants’ own cultural beliefs and how it may influence/bias their work with HIV+ clients.
