Petra Extension - Itinerary

Day 1 – Thursday February 14, 2019

After breakfast and checkout you will head to Jordan. After crossing the Allenby be met by your local Jordanian staff and taken on a short city tour of Amman, the capital of the Jordanian Kingdom.  [1] The visit will include a visit to the citadel, roman theater, followed by a tour of the old and modern sides of Amman.

 

Dinner and overnight will be at the Grand Palace Hotel. 

 

Day 2 – Friday February 15, 2019

After breakfast, you will head a bit north to visit the ruins of the city of Jerash. Jerash was built as one of the ten cities of the famed Roman Decapolis. Following your guide you will visit some of the most prominent archeologically preserved sites within Jerash such as the Oval Forum, the amphitheater, the Colonnaded Street, the Arch of Hadrian, the Hippodrome and much more. From there you will head south to Petra. En route, you will stop by the city of Madaba. There you will visit the famed church containing the oldest, largest and most detailed mosaic map of the Holy Land dating back a few centuries. Your next stop will Mt. Nebo, from atop Moses had seen the promised land, and is buried somewhere on the mountain.

Dinner and overnight will be at the Petra Guest House Hotel. 

 

Day 3 – Saturday February 16, 2019

In the morning, after a hearty breakfast, you will begin a full day tour of the Rose City. You will start by walking through the Siq, a winding fissure in the canyon surrounding the Rose City of Petra, and ending with the famous Khaznah facing the emerging tourists. Throughout the day, you will learn the importance of the city in the desert trade, history of the region, and the fascinating architectural technologies deployed in the city considered avant-garde for the time.  

In the late afternoon, there will be an optional hike up the mountain to the High Altar where you will be rewarded with magnificent views of the Negev Desert in Israel and the entire valley of Petra. 

 

Dinner and overnight will be at the Petra Guest House Hotel. 

 

Day 4 – Sunday February 17, 2019

After breakfast and check-out you'll take a short drive and reach Wadi Rum. Wadi Rum is the only canyon above sea-level and famed for its beautiful color, rock formations, and abundant caves full of cave-era drawings. You'll take a tour in a safari-styled adventure through the national park. Afterwards, you will be taken back to your bus and have some free time in Amman before heading to the airport to catch your flight home. [2]

We can request a transfer service at an extra charge.
