Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC)
In this course participants will learn standard first aid and CPR skills with the help of the instructor lectures, demonstrations and your reference manual.
Please ensure you arrive on time. It is a requirement that you attend all sessions to successfully complete the course.
The HSFC First Aid Course covers a lot of material in a short time. Please bring your Heart & Stroke First Aid Reference Manual with you to class as we will be referencing the materials in the manual throughout the course.
Make sure you have reviewed the manual prior to the class and be prepared to participate in group discussions.
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. You will be practicing skills that will require that you work on your hands and knees, bend, stand, and lift. If you have any physical conditions that might prevent these activities, please tell one of the instructors. The instructor may be able to adjust the equipment if you have back, knee, or hip problems. Also, please tell your instructor if you are allergic to latex.
Food and beverage are not permitted in the training room (except water), but can be purchased and consumed on hospital premises.
In this 2 day course you will learn the essential skills of patient care to protect and support the life of a suddenly ill or injured person until emergency medical services arrive. Instruction will cover first aid skills such as those that help in the control of bleeding, shock management, stabilizing fractures and dislocations.
The Heart & Stroke Foundation's Standard First Aid course has been developed to meet the requirements of provincial legislation in relation to the provision of occupational health and safety first aid.
