Who's Coming to the AI Party--Aspen Ballroom
Distracted by the loud Echo in the room, Cortana asked Siri if Watson was coming to the party while Alexa was giggling to herself in the corner. As the global technology giants race to dominate the consumer AI space, this session will explore the many implications for hotels. Activity is starting to spin up in our industry, but will guests embrace having an AI persona in their guestroom? What use cases will guests find compelling, how do we justify the expense and what about the ever-present question of privacy? Have you given any thought to how your company can take advantage and/or integrate AI or robotics in your products?

Mini Session v1: Transitioning Flags & Migrating Platforms can be a wild ride
Back by popular demand, this mini session, led by a CIO in the audience, will tackle a topic submitted during event registration. Reflags happen every day; buckle your seats when mergers & acquisitions create chaos for your IT team! You’ve gotten the call… “We’ve just purchased a new property in XYZ city and it needs to be fully converted to our systems ASAP!”. A challenge for sure as you wade through the many issues and vendors that need to be managed to deliver success. Now consider the daunting task of converting a brand or multiple brands to a new complement of systems. Arbitrating which systems remain and which ones get retired; What systems get converted first; Does such an event represent an opportunity for dramatic change? How much might something like this cost? How much time will it take? How do you complete the tasks without disrupting the business? These and many more challenges await you & your team as you manage through this journey!

Moderator: Mark McBeth, Vice President IT North America, Marriott International.

Mini Session v2: Evolution of the Hospitality CIO – Preparing the next generation of hotel CIOs

Our second mini session will tackle another popular topic submitted during event registration. Thankfully we have all found our way out of the machine room and into an office with windows. Maybe you bypassed tape-hanging 101 and rose through the ranks in property operations but had an aptitude for the latest and greatest technologies that found their way into the hotel. No matter how you got here, you now share in the responsibility of training and mentoring the next generation of technology leaders in hospitality. How do we prepare them? What educational background do they need? What schools and/or programs are best to partner with to insure we get business savvy technically competent talent rising through the ranks? Do you have a succession plan in place? When should you move on? Sound like a fun conversation?
Moderator: Bernard Gay, CIO, Delaware North.

Mini Session v3: Engaging your guests with new technologies, substance or filler?

The third mini session, led by a CIO in the audience, will tackle another hot topic submitted during event registration.Remember when it was a nice touch to see the flashing red light on your phone when you first opened the door to your guestroom? Better yet, receiving a call from the M.O.D. after you checked in to make sure everything in your room was in order. We all receive emails from hotels reminding us about our trip and informing us about additional services that are available at the property and of course those post stay surveys. How many of your companies have or are considering expanding your one-on-one communication efforts to social media channels? Has Alexa found her way into your guestrooms yet? Have you figured out ways to leverage text messaging? It seems every start-up these days has got something to say about the topic. Let’s explore how we are all tackling this inevitability!

Mini Session v4: Brand, Manager & Owner; Supporting & balancing the interests of all constituents

The final mini session will tackle our last chosen topic submitted during event registration. We all know the hospitality industry is more complex than the average person appreciates. Like any discipline, brand level IT departments establish brand standards and identify mandatory projects that properties flying their flags are compelled to comply with. Similarly, management companies, are constantly looking for ways to improve their operation to deliver greater returns to the company and the property owners. The challenge becomes managing multiple projects driven by all three constituent groups. Let’s talk about the challenges, how you have organized to insure success and identify ways to work together and drive value for everyone in the food chain. We only have 20 minutes but come with your war stories and suggestions.

The Value and Considerations of Cyber Insurance --Aspen Ballroom

If you have been involved in any contract negotiations over the last five years you undoubtedly have bumped into a clause requiring some form of Cyber Insurance. The field is new enough however that many are not familiar with the scope and standards of coverage, options for underwriting, what’s fair, what may be onerous and what are the potential costs you and your vendors may need to sign up for. Cyber Insurance is a dynamic topic and worth understanding as you counsel your organization in this new world order.

This year’s “intervention” promises to tackle the tough questions and is definitely NOT politically correct! Historically this is one of the highlights of the CIO Summit and inspires conversation all the way to the airport afterwards!
