Housing & Services for Rural Veterans
A Coordinated Approach

Follow the discussion online at #ruralveterans

Thursday, April 18, 2019 - Friday, April 19, 2019

Summary

Join the Housing Assistance Council (HAC) for the 5th Annual National Symposium on Veterans Housing Issues. This year's theme centers upon addressing the critical housing, support services, policy and program needs related to affordable housing, homelessness and aging solutions for rural veterans. Issues that are particularly important within the geographic context of the Delta Regional Authority’s eight-state service area.

There are three distinct activities within the symposium schedule. The first, a two-hour "Nuts & Bolt" HAC-THDF grant application workshop; the second, a reception and book panel, featuring the book "Rural Housing and Economic Development (2018)", that establishes quality of life ramifications of veteran housing within a community's economic development activities. Finally, and most significantly, the symposium itself features policy-makers, elected officials, university officials/students, rural/small-town practitioners and the various practical program models that are providing both rental and homeowner options, home repairs and aging in place modifications, critical housing counseling and workforce development and social service delivery to aging and other vulnerable veteran populations.
