Sam Houston State University and the Charles A. Dana Center at The University of Texas at Austin will co-host a convening on October 28, 2016, for public institutions of higher education in the Houston region. We invite teams from each 2- and 4- year institution in the region to participate in interactive, cross-institutional discussions to gain a shared understanding of mathematics course requirements and their alignment to programs of study.
Attendees: Each of the following institutions should send a team that includes their chief instructional officer, mathematics department chair or dean, and an additional mathematics faculty member who is familiar with the school’s statistics and/or quantitative reasoning courses.
4-year institutions: Lamar University, Prairie View A&M University, Sam Houston State University, Texas A&M University, Texas Southern University, University of Houston, University of Houston-Clear Lake, University of Houston-Downtown, University of Houston-Sugarland, University of Houston-Victoria.
2-year institutions: Angelina College, Alvin Community College, Blinn College, Brazosport College, College of the Mainland, Galveston College, Houston Community College, Lamar Institute of Technology, Lamar State College-Orange, Lamar State College-Port Arthur, Lee College, Lone Star College, San Jacinto College, Victoria College, Wharton County Junior College.
Location: The event will be held at Sam Houston State University’s The Woodlands Center in the Banquet Room. The address is 3380 College Park Drive, The Woodlands, TX, 77384. Maps and other information for The Woodlands Center are available here. No parking permit is needed.
Pre-Meeting Preparation: The Dana Center will provide a brief for all participants to read prior to the event that analyzes mathematics alignment in the Houston region. An agenda will also be provided.
Meeting Details: Registration and a light breakfast will be available 9:00AM – 9:30AM. The meeting will run 9:30AM – 2:00PM. Lunch will also be provided.
Travel Reimbursement: The following institutions may request a one time $400/person flat rate travel stipend for the chief instructional officer, mathematics department chair or dean, and a mathematics faculty member: Brazosport College, Galveston College, Lamar institutions (all locations), University of Houston-Victoria, Victoria College, and Wharton County Junior College. All other institutions traveling to the event may request a $60/person flat travel reimbursement. No receipts are needed for reimbursement. Please see the attached list of hotels.
To receive travel reimbursement complete and sign this form, along with a scan or photo of your driver's license, and submit them via email to Sarah Wenzel at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please allow 2-3 weeks for processing.
