Oil carryover from CNG fueling stations continues to be an industry problem, even for newer stations that either do not have the correct equipment or may not be properly maintained. Oil carryover in the CNG fuel stream creates costly problems for Cummins heavy-duty natural gas engines that traditional diesel technicians are not experienced with diagnosing or preventing. Oil carryover problems include contamination of sensors, regulators, filters, and catalytic converters, in addition to major engine component failures—all of which can cost from hundreds to thousands of dollars. In this Tech Talk, NGVi’s expert trainers Gordon Larsen and Bill Marchetti will discuss how to identify oil carryover problems in Cummins engines, and will present maintenance and diagnostic strategies to prevent damaging effects on engines.
