Humanistic Communication: Using Strategic Communication for Improved Health Outcomes

Seminar Description:
The health of patients hinges greatly on the care provider’s ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Strategic communication is needed to enhance communication with patients throughout the encounter stages of diagnosis, assessment, and treatment. Strategic communication is not easy; it requires a deliberate investment of time, effort and commitment by the health care provider, staff, and leadership of health care organizations. However, once the discipline of strategic communication is learned, practiced, and mastered the remarkable results of improved patient compliance, health outcomes and population health can be realized.

The essential goals of this program are:
• Introduce and refresh concepts related to strategic communication and cultural competency to health care providers and staff.
• Facilitate communication among faculty, staff, and providers to develop an improved understanding of the diversity within their organization.
