PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program 101 webinar will provide participants with information regarding all aspects of the Ombudsman Program including the structure of the program, Federal and State authority, and ombudsman activities. Participants will also gain a better understanding of the role of an ombudsman as a resident-directed advocate to long-term care residents and the tools ombudsmen use in order to effectively advocate on behalf of residents. In addition, the presentation will include a discussion about the rights afforded to long-term care residents and how ombudsmen and facility staff can work together to assure rights are protected.

Jamie Freschi has been an ombudsman for eleven years in central Illinois, serving as the Illinois State Long-Term Care Ombudsman for one year. Throughout her years as an advocate, she has been on several committees and councils including, the Long-Term Care Council, the Long-Term Care Advisory Group, the Abuse Prevention and Review Team, Healthcare Fraud Taskforce with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and former acting president and legislative member of the Illinois Association for Long-Term Care Ombudsmen. Jamie has spoken at several conferences and has also written and published training manuals for Involuntary Transfers & Discharges and Nursing Home/Assisted Living Facility Abuse and Exploitation. Jamie believes it is an honor and a privilege to advocate for those whom she believes are the most vulnerable of our population.
