Symposium on Ethics of Autonomous Systems (SEAS Europe)
Thank you for registering for the first face-to-face meeting of The Global Initiative for Ethical Considerations in the Design of Autonomous Systems, an Industry Connections Program within the IEEE Standards Association.
We are excited to welcome thought leaders like yourself focused on helping advance technology for humanity by prioritizing the use of methodologies that can increase innovation while honoring end user values in the realms of Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems (AI/AS).
What You’ll Be Doing (on Sunday)
A primary goal of the Global Initiative is to create and iterate a document entitled, “Addressing Ethical Concerns for Autonomous and Intelligent System Design.” This draft document (“ECSD 1.0”) is designed to help technologists identify key ethical concerns within their AI/AS focused work that will also provide directional, candidate recommendations to deal with those issues.
Over the past number of months, eight Committees comprised of dozens of AI/AS/ethics experts have created draft content for you to review, discuss, and vote on at our event as part of our consensus building process designed to benefit the AI/AS community and society at large.
On August 1st, we’ll send you the latest draft of ECSD 1.0 in PDF form and as a Google Doc. You’ll be invited to begin leaving comments anywhere in the document and to consider which of the eight Committee Workshops you’d like to join at the event. You’ll also be able to provide your own concerns or candidate recommendations into the doc that will be discussed and voted on in your Workshop.
On Sunday, August 28th you’ll spend the majority of the day in your Workshop working with Committee Members who provided original draft content for ECSD 1.0. Working with a moderator and scribe, you’ll review concerns and vote on candidate recommendations in an effort to best identify and provide direction for key AI/AS issues facing society today.
All the insights and results from every Workshop will be aggregated after SEAS is finished into an updated, draft version of ECSD 1.0 we’ll be releasing to the public at the end of 2016 after a rigorous review process.
Following all of our Workshops on Sunday we’ll be hosting a Reception in honor of all Attendees as a thank you for your insights and efforts.
Full details of our Sunday and Monday processes and our full Event Program will be available soon.
What You’ll Be Doing (on Monday)
On Monday morning we’ll be gathering as a group to hear from representatives of each Initiative Committee who will provide feedback from their Workshops on Sunday. We’ll also be discussing AI/AS issues as they relate to ECSD and our overall efforts as a Community.
IEEE attendees are also eligible to receive a lower rate to attend the main ECAI conference. We highly recommend you stick around to network with Europe’s leading minds in intelligent and autonomous technologies. You can go here to register for ECAI.
