Event Overview

The ISACA Pittsburgh Information Security Awareness Day Conference is the premier educational event for Information Systems Audit and Information Security professionals in the Western Pennsylvania area. With a chapter membership of approximately 600, the ISACA Pittsburgh Chapter is represented by employees of over 150 companies, academic institutions and government entities throughout the region. Thanks in part to corporate and vendor sponsorship this conference is the top educational value for IS Audit and Security professionals in Pittsburgh. Each year the event has grown significantly from the prior year. Over 300 IS Audit and Security professionals from all lines of business in the Tri-State area registered for last year’s event, and we are expecting higher levels of attendance this year through expanding our invitation to other local professional security and audit associations and neighboring chapters.  It is also important to note that our event is attended by many VP, Manager, and Director level personnel that are key decision makers in the IT, IT audit and security departments of their organizations.

In addition to the educational sessions, the Information Security Awareness Day Conference will also feature exhibitions from the leading companies in the market. The exhibitor booths will be located in high traffic areas which will allow exhibitors and vendors an opportunity to network with conference attendees and to demonstrate their products and services. Attendees are issued passports that are required to be filled in or initialed by each vendor in order to be eligible for raffle prizes that will be provided by the Chapter (exhibitor’s may choose to supplement with additional prizes). All attendees must be present to win.  Lastly, we encourage all of our exhibitors and sponsors to submit an application to speak at the event.

Call For Speakers

The ISACA Pittsburgh Information Security Awareness Day Conference features outstanding speakers that are thought leaders on security and audit from around the country.   Given the large presence of decision makers that attend this event speaking opportunities are in high demand.  Due to the high volume of speaking inquiries we have established a process for the ISACA Pittsburgh Board of Directors Event Planning Committee to evaluate potential topics and presentations.  Presentations may briefly feature tools or services offered by the speaking organization but the presentation may not be sales driven, all presentations must be educational and tie into the overall theme of technology controls and security.  Speaking session lengths should be tailored to fit within a 45 minute time frame with allowance for Q&A, however depending on the topic we may allow for additional time.  We ask that any organization wishing to speak submit their proposal/session abstract to the Director of Seminars (contact info below) by September 30, 2016.  All speakers selected must also submit their final presentation drafts to the Director of Seminars by October 31, 2016 for final review and approval.

Speaking proposals should include the minimum elements:

  • Session Title
  • Session Synopsis
  • Learning Objectives
  • Length of time Requested
  • Sample Presentation (if available)

Topics for presentation should relate specifically to some aspect of Information Security and/or Audit. We plan on having at least two tracks throughout the day, and depending on the submissions we may break the tracks into at least two categories (Technical versus General Risk and Compliance).

Possible considerations (only for illustration) based on preliminary results from our 2016 survey include:

  • Cyber Security Risks
  • Internet of Things
  • Securing the Human
  • Cloud Security Practices
  • Data Breach and Incident Response Practices
  • Application Security
  • Regulatory and Compliance Updates
  • Third Party Risk Management
  • Security and Information Event Management/Audit Log Best Practices
  • Employee Surveillance
  • Implementation and use of leading edge security methods
