The goal of the 2019 Innovations in Freight Data Workshop is to bring together diverse freight data users to share their recent innovative applications of emerging data sources and to discuss their experience in applying new and emerging data sources. The specific objectives of the workshop will be to:● Invite freight data users and decision makers to learn and share the latest applications of emerging data sources and data fusion methods to improve freight planning, freight operations and mobility, and freight visualization;● Capture and share data with tools that are adaptable, flexible, user-friendly, and preserve proprietary data, or that are developed with open source technology; ● Discuss the application of emerging data sources and methods used by States and MPOs who are required to meet local and federal freight planning and performance measurement requirements;● Share best practices for addressing new challenges associated with the use of new and emerging data sources and methods, including but not limited to data procurement, data use agreements, data validation, and workforce development; and● Gather participation from across the modal spectrum of goods movement, including highway, rail, marine, and air, and from data scientists and technology developers who can move the conversation beyond making incremental improvements to traditional freight planning and analysis methods.
