Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University's Division of Continuing Education is pleased to offer this 4 week Spring 2016 Intensive English Program. In addition to this abbreviated program, students can join us year-round for additional Intensive English Programs offered from 4 to 15 weeks with a minimum of 20 hours of instruction per week.

The Intensive English Program (IEP) is designed to facilitate international students' transition to US Universities through instruction of English as a Second Language (ESL). The goal of the program is to improve students' listening, speaking, reading, grammar and writing skills in a relatively short time. Students are given placement and post assessment tests. Activities may include field trip(s), guest speakers, and events on campus. Students will have access to University housing, meal plans, transportation services, the library, computer lab, health/fitness center and other university facilities.

The mission of the Intensive English Program (IEP) at Florida A&M University is to assist non-native speakers of English with the preparation needed to successfully acclimate academically, linguistically, culturally, and socially, in any North American institution of higher education.

The vision of the IEP is to promote the benefits of intercultural learning and second language learning.  By sharing their global perspectives in the IEP classroom, students will develop a deeper understanding of their own culture as well as the diverse cultures in the United States and in the world. FAMU, an institution dedicated to enhancing diversity, benefits from the enlightenment brought by international and domestic students. Students learn to empower themselves through critical thinking, reflection, and participation to enhance their cultural experiences.

The Intensive English Program (IEP) embraces innovative teaching techniques to help students improve their English Language learning skills. In addition the program promotes student acclimation to a North American university environment. Overall, the goal of the program is to improve students’ ability to fluently read, write, speak, and understand English.
