ABOUT THIS PROGRAM The ACT Center was founded in 1999 as a component of the cessation initiative for Mississippi’s state tobacco plan. Initial support for the ACT Center was provided by an annually renewed grant from The Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi. Currently, the Mississippi State Legislature appropriates funds drawn from our state’s Master Settlement Agreement which is the appropriated via the University of Mississippi Medical Center Cancer Institute, as well as a supplemental grant by the Mississippi State Department of Health to support our statewide network. As of this writing, this funding allows for a statewide tobacco treatment network of 16 sites. Mississippi residents interested in quitting tobacco are eligible for treatment at no charge at the ACT Center and our affiliated hospital satellite clinics. This workshop was designed for professionals who have already been trained as Tobacco Treatment Specialists.
ELIGIBILITY The workshop is open to healthcare professionals who wish to enhance their knowledge of intensive interventions for the tobacco dependent patient. It is strongly recommended that the enrollee have already attended a full TTS training curriculum, as this program builds upon that foundation. TRAINING GOAL The primary goal of this program is to provide supplemental training to professionals previously trained as Tobacco Treatment Specialists. The specific content areas included are those for which new information is likely to available over the past 2 years. Our 5-day CTTS Workshop is CTTTP accredited. While no specific accreditation is currently available for this program, its intention is consistent with the overall goals of our accredited curriculum, and the competency standards set forth by the Association for the Treatment of Tobacco Use and Dependence (ATTUD; www.attud.org).
