Introduction to Co-Teaching
for Inclusive Classrooms
A key way to address the needs of diverse learners is to pair a general education teacher with a special services provider (i.e. Special Educator, ELL Educator, Reading Specialist, Gifted Educator) in a general education classroom using a co-teaching model. This pairing allows teachers with various areas of expertise to better provide differentiated instruction for students. Challenges associated with co-teaching models can be addressed with analysis of what co-teachers do and how this relates to student success.
Topics addressed will include:
• Effective co-teaching arrangements
• Student placement
• Co-teacher roles and relationships
Participants will be invited to enroll co-teaching teams in our regional initiative for Co-Teaching, which is a multi-day series of trainings with on site consulting and school visits to classrooms.
Audience: District & School Administrators, New Co-Teaching Teams and/or Teams considering Co-Teaching as a service delivery model option in the area of Special Education or English Language Learners.
