Why attend?

Are you a nurse or allied health professional who would like to be considered as an IR(ME)R Referrer in your local practice? Are you already an IR(ME)R duty holder, who requires an update on the revised regulations?

The Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R) allow non-medical (as well as medical) personnel to request clinical imaging examinations, as long as that person is a registered healthcare professional. Most UK clinical imaging departments will not give IR(ME)R entitlement to individuals until they have had some form of awareness training. By taking this training they will be in a position to seek IR(ME)R Referrer entitlement from their local radiology service.

By the end of the day, delegates will:

  • Recognise the legal and professional responsibilities associated with being an IR(ME)R Referrer duty holder
  • Be aware of the requirements for local IR(ME)R Employer’s Procedures
  • Comprehend the various radiation exposure reactions of human tissue and how to ameliorate these
  • Be aware of the best clinical imaging examinations for typical patient disorders and diseases
  • Appreciate the need for local scope of practice with potential limitations in referring

This programme will be suitable for nurses and AHPs (probably at advanced practice level) who wish to be considered as IR(ME)R Referrers, or for those who are already IR(ME)R duty holders.
