ISAE 2018 February Luncheon

What You Already Know About Public Speaking

Session Description:
Everyone recognizes a good public speaker when they see and hear one. What does the speaker do to get and keep our attention? If you think about it, you may already know.  Together, we will identify the elements of effective public speaking. Does it make you nervous to speak in front of an audience? When we examine the science behind the fear of public speaking, we understand it is a normal human response, making it easier to overcome.

The session will include a fun interactive exercise to help practice the skills we have identified. There will also be a brief history and description of Toastmasters International, upon whose educational program the session is based.

Learning objectives:
1.)  Attendees will learn why it is normal to be nervous when speaking in front of an audience.
2.)  Attendees will learn about the identifiable skills that make up good public speaking.
3.)  Attendees will learn why the skills needed for good public speaking are improved with practice.
