This interactive and challenging course will identify, explore, and analyze professional issues related to standard of care, liability, risk management, and scope of practice in clinical practice. It will focus on the most recent laws, regulations and ethical standards affecting the practice of psychotherapy in California. The course will address changes in reporting requirements, confidentiality, privileged communication, informed consent, managing high-risk issues, minors in treatment, and other practice issues. Additional topics will include licensing board regulations and statutes, malpractice litigation, professional accountability and competence, boundaries and social media, ethical practice and ethical decision-making in today’s technology society.
After attending this seminar, you should be able to:
Course will explore and analyze professional issues related to advertising, malpractice and liability, high-risk clients (overview), record keeping and patient access to records, termination of therapy and interruption of services, minors in treatment and consent, online therapy, telehealth informed consent updates, and anti-sexting in clinical practice.
The most recent laws, licensing board regulations, case laws, statutes and ethical standards will be reviewed as they pertain to these clinical areas of practice in California. This interactive and innovative course will view a deeper understanding of ethical practices in order to provide safe, competent and quality care. Additional topics will include professional accountability and competence, multiple relationship issues and social media, cyber liability, ethical dilemmas and ethical-decision-making practices for today’s technological society.
