Looking for Gifts in All the Right Places: 10 Clues You're Speaking to a Planned Giving Prospect and What to Do About It


Program Description:
Planned gifts to nonprofits have the potential to transform organizations, but we often do not spend the time needed to cultivate them.

How do you know when to discuss planned giving? Planned giving opportunities can come up at any time. This session will help fundraisers recognize clues that someone is a planned giving prospect, turn a “no” into a gift, and uncover potential gifts the fund raisers may not even have been looking for. Using case studies we will explore how, with careful listening, creative thinking, and a basic understanding of planned giving techniques, fund raisers can help people make the gifts that they did not think were possible. The session includes a brief review of planned giving techniques.

Aviva Shiff Boedecker, Senior Consultant, SHARPE newkirk

Aviva Shiff Boedecker is a SHARPE newkirk Senior Consultant based in San Francisco. An attorney with more than 30 years of gift planning experience, Aviva has served for more than a decade each as a director of planned giving at the University of California, Berkeley and the Marin Community Foundation. She initiated San Francisco Ballet’s planned giving program after beginning her career in the private practice of law.

Aviva has served on the board of the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners and is a past president of the Northern California Planned Giving Council and of the Marin County Estate Planning Council. She has been a member of Planned Giving Today’s Editorial Advisory Board, writes for many planned giving publications and is a frequent lecturer on planned giving and a resource on philanthropy for professional advisors and individual donors.

Aviva is a Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters and has been involved with a variety of nonprofit and community organizations. She is an alumna of the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and a member of the California Bar.

AFPCCC hereby establishes the policy that attendance will be paid in advance by credit card. For members and attendees who want to pay by check, checks will need to be received one week before the event in order for them to be considered registered.

You may cancel your registration and receive a partial refund minus a $5 processing fee by 5pm, Monday, April 15.

If you find you can not make it after the 48 hour cancellation, your registration can be used by another person but must pay the difference if applicable.
