The Massachusetts BORID regulations as they apply to required drugs and equipment as well as a written protocol for managing medical emergencies will be discussed. Unconsciousness, respiratory distress, altered consciousness, seizures, drug-related emergencies, chest pain, MI, and cardiac arrest will also be discussed including relevant pathophysiology. Being prepared for a medical emergency in the dental office is of paramount importance.  A team approach will be emphasized.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review various medical emergencies including unconsciousness, respiratory distress, drug-related emergencies, and cardiac arrest
  • Learn how to be competent in management of medical emergencies
