Management of Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office

Speaker: Richard J. Catrambone, DMD, MD, assistant clinical professor, oral and maxillofacial surgery, Harvard School of Dental Medicine

The BORID regulations as they apply to required drugs and equipment as well as a written protocol for managing medical emergencies will be discussed. Unconsciousness, respiratory distress, altered consciousness, seizures, drug-related emergencies, chest pain, MI, and cardiac arrest will also be discussed including relevant pathophysiology. Being prepared for a medical emergency in the dental office is of paramount importance.  A team approach will be emphasized.
