Metabolic Dietary Disorder Association

MDDA national conferences take place every second year and are a fantastic opportunity for MDDA members to get together are share experiences and challenges in a relaxed, social yet informative environment.

MDDA welcomes all members, non members, health professionals, dietitians and other community groups to participate in these events, and they act as an important dateon the MDDA calendar of events.

2011 COnference

Celebrating You

The 2011 MDDA Conference took place this year at Seaworld Resort Gold Coast October 15 & 16. The event was a great success with close to 150 people participating across the two days. Event highlights included: - Nutricia Masterchef Challenge - what a creative bunch of chefs we had this year! - What's in my Pantry sessions - thanks Louise for all the preparation and a stunning job facilitating this useful session. - Dr Jim McGill provided such useful information on all IEM's (not leaving a stone unturned) and was eye opening for everyone in the room. - Bruce Lord held a captivating session on the emotional side of living with a child with an IEM as we had the opportunity to explore the experiences and emotional phases of 4 PKU parents. - Our dietitian guest speakers Maureen Humphrey, Annabel Sweeney and Sue Thompson provided useful insights into latest research, diet management and treatment options for both PKU and other IEM's. - Our International Guest speakers; Barbara Cochrane and Tricia Rutherford who traveled such a distance to fill us with a world of knowledge from an international perspective and insight into even broader diet and formula options available. - The Teens breakout session with Mark Boyce, Rachel Sharman and Siobhan Brown provided a great opportunity for our IEM teens to spend some time together sharing their experiences - and some great bonds were formed! - Similarly our Maternal session - whilst intimate in size - was rated extremely high in terms of the information provided by Aiofe Smith - Thanks Aiofe! - And all of those that had the privilege of sitting through Dean Tulloch's presentation at the AGM evening dinner went on an amazing journey and he told his inspiring story of how he ran 250km through the Gobi Desert China all in the name of raising awareness for MDDA and for his little buddy Charlie (2 yo with PKU).		What did you think? - Well Done. Well thought out and executed. Master Chef was great fun. Thankyou MDDA for all the hard work you have done to put this conference together. Your workload was overloaded and you still managed to help other matters with a smile. Thank you very much we appreciate your efforts. THANKS Worth making the effort to get here. Loved the food ideas presented by others and the SeaWorld chef. Great experience. Look forward to attending again. My first conference and I was given great tools for dealing with PKU with my Boy but also for myself. Loved new products; Attending the new format of Master Chef; new information on treating MSUD when children get sick; overall everything was great. Excellent info given at maternal PKU. - Really great and learned a lot-met people with new ideas. Dean Tulloch spoke from his heart. His raw presentation of his Kobe challenge and the 1 thing in mind to survive to the end CHARLIE.
