In your profession, one of the most important skills you can master is the building of genuine, open, and meaningful relationships with your clients. They count on you to be there for them when, sometimes, no one else can be. The question is, are you up the the challenge of really being present with your clients? If you’re ready to deeply and experientially explore and master the therapeutic relationship in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, this workshop is for you.
In 2008, ACT founder Kelly Wilson’s Mindfulness for Two quietly appeared as part of the growing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) literature. In contrast to the 1999 Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and its evolved 2011 edition—surveys of the theory and practice of ACT—Mindfulness for Two is a personal and powerful guide to the therapeutic relationship in ACT. What can happen when you slow down, let go of your usual patterns of managing hard content, and shift your attention from fixing and consoling to listening and appreciating? Your client is truly heard and, sometimes, hear themselves for the first time.
In the last eight years, the body of ACT literature has surged, but Mindfulness for Two remains the best and most detailed treatment of the therapeutic relationship in ACT. The book also includes one of the most effective and detailed case-conceptualization models developed for the work to date. This year, in three limited-enrollment workshops, you can join Kelly to explore the therapeutic relationship as it is understood in ACT:
Do note that enrollment in these highly experiential workshops is very limited to support your personal connection with Kelly and the other participants. Please register as early as you can to ensure your spot in these rare workshops.
Registration for these workshops will include copies of Mindfulness for Two and its companion volume Things Might Go Terribly, Horribly Wrong*. Reading Mindfulness for Two is a prerequisite for this workshop. The text is appropriate for all levels of practitioner, regardless of your familiarity with ACT. Students are most welcome. Your own personal experiences and perspectives will be primary subjects of discussion in the workshop.
* Your two books will be shipped to you shortly after you register so you can start reading right away. Because of this, we’re modifying our usual cancellation policy for these workshops: You are still free to cancel and get refunds according to our usual terms, but if your books have been shipped, they are not returnable, and we will withhold $35.00 from your refund—50% of the cover price of both books.
