Kick-start your MSC with one of these interactive and inspiring workshops. Designed to dig deep into important, foundational topics, these sessions offer the opportunity to ask questions and engage in dialogue.
FOR LEADERS
Leadership is a not a position, but a disposition for taking action. Gaining systemwide support of rigorous learning is most effective when leaders take a three-step approach: create a culture focused on high academic expectations and positive relationships; establish and communicate a clear and shared vision of what students need to be successful; and take action to make that vision a reality. This pre-conference will illustrate why culture trumps strategy and engage you in reflecting on the shifts leaders must make to build a culture that can support rigorous learning for all students.
FOR LEADERS AND TEACHERS
With Thomas C. Murray Director of Innovation, Future Ready Schools, Alliance for Excellent Education If we want our students to become successful citizens in a global society, our schools must cultivate high-level thinkers, innovators, and problem solvers—which requires moving away from the traditional model of schooling. But where do we begin? With strong leadership and a positive culture as the foundation, we can start to shift the teaching and learning paradigm to one that supports and encourages today’s modern learners to prepare them for success far beyond school. During this pre-conference, Eric and Tom will share research-based strategies that will inspire and empower you and your team to implement actionable, sustainable change.
FOR TEACHERS
So you’ve heard of rigor and relevance, but what does that actually mean—and what do they look like in the classroom? Launch your learning at Model Schools Conference with an introduction to ICLE’s Rigor/Relevance Framework®, a powerful tool for analyzing curriculum, instruction, activities, and assessments in any content area. Through this lens, you will establish a common vocabulary and gain insight into how you can raise the level of critical thinking and relate content to real-world, applicable situations.
FOR TEACHERS AND LEADERS
You are a change agent. Productive change occurs through courageous conversations that provide opportunities for self-reflection and insight into a wide range of perspectives to examine the most critical issues affecting your students. This session will put the spotlight on those most vulnerable populations by exploring issues of race, culture, implicit bias, and trauma to create a path to equity that is built on understanding and empathy. This pre-conference will impact your heart and mind and will empower you as a change agent for all students.
Bring it all Together—stay for the Post-Conference!
Avoid information overload with the proper support. This session will provide strategies for sifting through ideas and remaining inspired to maximize productivity when you return home.
