Native Plant Identification for Home Gardeners

Many savvy home gardeners are aware that native plants may be well adapted to the conditions in their landscape and are seeking them out.  If you'd like to tune-up your knowledge of natives, this class may be just what you're looking for!

We will cover trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants considered native to southeastern Pennsylvania, and will give practical information on how you can use these plans in the landscape. Learn key identification characteristics, find out about straight species vs. cultivars, and discover the pest issues and site requirements you should know about before choosing some of these plants.  Emphasis will be on plants that are readily available in the nursery trade.

Join us for an informative class which will combine classroom time and hands-on work and a tour of the plants on campus.  No prior study of native plants is required.

The instructor is Dr. David Sanford, Professor of Horticulture, Penn State University.
