Navigating the Opioid Crisis: Where Do We Go From Here?


Program Overview

The URMC Social Work Professional Development Committee is pleased to announce the Second Annual Social Work Conference “Navigating the Opioid Crisis: Where Do We Go From Here” to be held Friday October 20, 2017 at the RIT Inn and Conference Center.

This year’s conference will focus on the opioid epidemic affecting our community and nation. The keynote speaker, Jennifer Faringer, MS.ED, CPPg, Director DePaul National Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence - Rochester area, will discuss national, state, and Monroe County trends of this public health emergency. A local family will share their personal experience. Presenters include experts in the field of medically assisted treatment modalities. Law enforcement, along with Rochester area substance abuse treatment providers, will address current initiatives. Additionally, new grassroots efforts will be highlighted.

At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to:

  • Expand resource knowledge for opioid addiction
  • Have an increased understanding of the depth of addiction trends locally and nationally
  • Have empathy for caregivers/families dealing with addiction in their families
