The NEHSA 2016 Regional Leadership Conference is the largest professional development event specifically designed to support the needs of Head Start/Early Head Start leaders from throughout the six New England States. Hundreds of Head Start Directors, Managers, Board members, parents and partners will join together between December 13 - 15, 2016 at the Courtyard Marriott in Nashua, NH.
The Head Start community is once again in the midst of change, and NEHSA is pleased to host this year's conference and provide high-quality training and networking opportunities for program leaders. Throughout the conference there will be opportunities for you to share, listen, learn, and be inspired. The workshop presenters are recognized nationally for their expertise and knowledge, and the issues addressed are current and relevant to the work you do each and every day.
KEYNOTE SPEAKER - Wednesday, December 14, 2016:
Angel Taveras, Former Mayor of Providence, RI and Head Start Alumni
Mayor Taveras will talk about the award winning program, Providence Talks, which is focused on boosting vocabulary development for low-income children. Providence Talks was selected as the $5 million grand-prize winner of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Mayors Challenge, from a field of more than 300 applications. Providence Talks is designed to close the thirty-million-word gap that exists between children of low- and high- income households. Using a prototype ‘word pedometer,’ it tracks the number of daily words used and conversation-turns between adult and child. Early evidence shows it is increasing the number of those exchanges. In addition, Mayor Taveras will also address the importance of political engagement and participation.
This conference is specifically designed to increase the skills and knowledge of emerging, new and seasoned leaders in Head Start and Early Head Start programs. This includes:
Is your program looking for new strategies for responding to challenging behaviors of children? This year we are thrilled to provide a post-conference workshop that is devoted to presenting practical and research-based practices that programs can implement when working with children and their parents.
Extend your conference experience and join us for our post-conference workshop on December 15, 2016. Participants will leave the workshop with concrete and efficient tools can be put in place or shared with others, and with practical tools that can be offered to parents to support them and strengthen the teacher-parent relationship.
