New Frontiers in the Multidisciplinary Management of Merkel Cell Carcinoma


Program Overview

Course Description:
The goal of this activity is to increase the knowledge of primary care providers, dermatologists, dermatologic surgeons, medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, otolaryngologists, residents, fellows, physician extenders, and nurses in helping to better diagnose and manage Merkel cell carcinoma. By improving the ability of health care providers to diagnose the disease early and provide patients with individualized care based on the most up to date consensus recommendations, the outcomes and survival of MCC patients may improve.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to:
1. List the challenges in the diagnosis and accurate prognostic factors of Merkel cell carcinoma
2. Discuss areas of controversy vs established guidelines in the management of Merkel cell carcinoma
3. Describe how emerging immunotherapies fit in the management of Merkel cell carcinoma, both as adjuvant and first line treatment, and how to best incorporate these drugs in the multidisciplinary approach to this disease.
