Victoria is an attractive, modestly-sized city on Vancouver Island that is easily walkable and enjoys excellent summer weather. May is typically sunny with temperatures that peak around 60F/15C. As the capital of British Columbia it is a popular international tourist destination. Visitor attractions include whale-watching, wine tours, the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory and the Butchart Gardens, a world heritage site. Victoria is easily accessible through Victoria International Airport, recently voted one of the 10 most visitor-friendly airports in the world. Visitors can also fly into Vancouver or Seattle, then travel on to Victoria by ferry or seaplane.
The following sites provide an abundance of information for visitors to Victoria and the surrounding area: • Hello BC• Tourism Victoria• VancouverIsland.com
Our meeting will take place at the Victoria Conference Centre (VCC). Located in the heart of the inner harbour district of Victoria, this beautiful facility offers a large meeting room, with several nearby spaces for poster presentations, plus a large foyer where attendees can network during coffee and poster sessions. The VCC is within easy walking distance to many hotels and a wide range of restaurants, across from the Royal BC Museum and just steps from the Provincial Parliament Buildings and Beacon Hill Park.
****We have had one report of a participant being phoned and offered a hotel booking from “Business Travel Management” and requesting credit card information. This is a scam. This organization is not associated with our meeting. Please do not transmit any information to them. If you are contacted, please alert us immediately.****
While there is no official host hotel for this conference, we have secured group rates at several close by properties. The Fairmont Empress is attached to the VCC while the others are within walking distance.
