Dear Friends and Colleagues,
After coming back from our site visit, I would like to share with you some of the highlights of the White Nights Baltic Sea Cruise. It will be a five country excursion aboard the luxurious Silver Whisper ship. (Mid-sized so no tenders are used to get into ports!) Initially we were planning on arriving in Stockholm, Sweden the day of embarkation; however, after visiting and seeing how beautiful it is we decided that it not only would be more convenient but a real lost opportunity. The Grand Hotel is a 5 star magnificent hotel situated with breathtaking views overlooking the water. A welcome reception will be held at the Hotel that evening. In the morning, we will have a city tour including the Old Town and stopping at the Vasa Museum and City Hall where the Nobel Peace Prizes are given. That evening our journey on the Baltic Sea will begin; the scenery is superb! We arrive in Tallin, Estonia the next day at 11:00 a.m. (allowing our Scientific session to begin while we are at sea 8-11:30 am) where we will Tour the Old town and stop for Chocolate at one of the quaint cafes. We are then off to St. Petersburg spending 3 days, visiting Peter & Paul Fortress, Nevsky prospect, and Church of the Spilled Blood. Our day trip is on Monday and we will visit the Summer Palace of Catherine the Great and have lunch at Povorie to taste the Russian cuisine. Afterwards we will visit one of the famous Peterhoff fountains. These Palaces and gardens are sometimes referred as the "Russian Versailles". The palace-ensemble along with the city centre is recognized as a Site. The next day we will tour The Hermitage followed by the Yusopov Palace. Depart and arrive in Helsinki, Finland for everyone to have a free day (that is after the scientific session) to explore and shop in town which is walking distance from the ship. Thursday we will be at sea so you can enjoy all the amenities aboard the ship! We arrive the next morning in Copenhagen, Denmark for disembarkation. Our Scientific Session is now being organized under the Leadership of Dr. Mitchell Benson. I can promise you it will be informative and very interesting.
Janice and I as well as Michele and the McVeigh team welcome you and hope that you will join us on this exciting trip.
