NIH Multi-Institute (NIAID/NCI/NIBIB/ NIGMS/NIEHS/NCATS) Small Business Workshop 2017

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is hosting a Multi-Institute Small Business Workshop for SBIR/STTR stakeholders in and around Louisiana. Biotechnology entrepreneurs from Socially or Economically disadvantaged backgrounds, new faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and all other innovators who are interested in starting new biomedical enterprises are encouraged to attend. The purpose is to prepare current and next-generation of biomedical entrepreneurs to compete within the SBIR/STTR programs administered by NIH and to address the issue of underrepresentation of certain populations in NIH SBIR/STTR current applicant pool as well as relative lack of successful applications of these populations.

The NIAID-led Program will include presentations from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) as well as the HHS SBIR/STTR Program Coordinator. Additionally, we’ll be joined by representatives from the National Science Foundation (NSF) SBIR Program. Panel Discussions will include the National Institute for Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) and the Center for Scientific Review (CSR). Staff from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) will also be available to meet with attendees.

In addition to educating attendees about the NIH SBIR/STTR programs and unique career opportunities in biomedical entrepreneurship/commercialization, the workshop will provide the knowledge and guidance needed to successfully apply to the NIH programs and to comply with the NIH SBIR/STTR policies and regulations. The agenda will include: overview of the NIH SBIR/STTR programs, introductions to programs administered by each participating Institute, the application/review processes, company formation, other sources of commercialization funding, SBIR/STTR grant/proposal writing, panel discussions, and one-on-one sessions with NIH Staff.
