Nitrous Oxide Sedation for the Dental Hygienist and Dental Assistant

This course provides registered Dental Hygienists with basic and current concepts in the administration of nitrous oxide. Upon successful completion of this course, the RDH will have met the State of Ohio’s didactic, clinical hours and course content requirements to become eligible to administer nitrous oxide. This course meets for the 4 hours of didactic instruction and 2 hours of clinical experience required by the Ohio State Dental Board.

This program is also specifically designed to prepare the Dental Assistant to obtain certification in nitrous oxide monitoring as mandated by the Ohio State Dental Board. A comprehensive review on the general guidelines and industry standards for nitrous oxide conscious sedation will be presented. This course includes 6 hours of didactic instruction. Dental Assistants must be CPR certified and have at least 2 years and 3,000 hours of experience to perform this function (educational hours do not count towards requirement). 

All participants are required to pass a written examination.
