This course is designed for the health care professional to comprehend the theory of adolescent weight management and apply effective weight management treatment plans in a variety of settings based on varied adolescent client needs. The curriculum for this 3 credit hour course is based on the Barlow, Expert Committee Recommendations Regarding the Prevention, Assessment, and Treatment of Child and Adolescent Overweight and Obesity and The Strong Healthy Families adolescent weight management program, Nutrition Weight Management Center, University of Rochester, 2004. This course will also provide information on the implementation of an adolescent weight management program that includes nutrition, physical activity and behavioral components. Students will develop comprehensive screening, assessment and intervention skills specific to adolescent weight management based on clinical evidence. This course may be taken as an elective in the RN to BS and the masters programs. It is also open to non-matriculated students.
