This course is designed to prepare advanced practice nurses in applying theory to inform research and evidence to practice and using evidence to drive clinical decision-making. Students will learn the foundations of research methods that underlie evidence based practice. The course focuses on developing clinical questions, analyzing clinical data, evaluating pertinent evidence-based research, and ties this to a theoretical frame work that will in turn guide clinical practice recommendations. Students will also explore outcomes in the contexts of professional practice using the theoretical frame work soundly based on evidence. Students will gain a greater appreciation of how theory and evidence-based practice articulate and how best to apply theory to a clinical problem and measure outcomes.
