NWATA District 10 Meeting 2018 - Portland

Dear NWATA Member,

It’s hard to believe that we are once again at the start of another year and that means another opportunity to gather as family during our Annual Business Meeting and Clinical Symposium of the Northwest Athletic Trainers’ Association. I would like to personally invite you to this year’s 2018 NWATA-District 10 Annual Business Meeting and Clinical Symposium in Portland, Oregon. The event will be on March 22-25 at the Red Lion Hotel on the River – Jantzen Beach.

Suzette Nynas, NWATA Meetings Coordinator and our incredible Local Team of Gen Ludwig, Dana Bates, Ashley Rice, Sara McSweeney, and Cari Wood, have put together an amazing educational agenda both varied and diverse in their topics. Certified Athletic Trainers can earn up to 13 CEUs, currently with 7 of those being EBPs, by just attending the two-day portion of the Clinical Symposium. Additional CEUs can be earned from either the Thursday full-day workshop, the Sunday half-day workshops, or you can do both and walk away after four amazing days with close to 23 CEUs. What a great Opportunity to start earning your CEUs for the new BOC Reporting period. We have applied for EBP status for many of our agenda topics, and we are waiting on approval from the BOC for potentially more EBPs. As soon as we get confirmation, an e-blast will be sent letting you know how many of the 13 will be EBP. Many of the topics at this year’s meeting are very timely and pertinent to many different practice settings, so there is something that will pique your professional interest for sure.

As always, you will have the opportunity to catch up with the business of both your district and state associations and to ask important questions of your leaders. This year’s NWATA-District 10 Business Meeting will be late Saturday morning, at 11:45 AM. One of the items on our Business Agenda will be to vote on the tabled by-laws change from last year regarding the nominating mechanics for NWATA officers. State meetings will remain on Friday evening prior to our awards ceremony and the district social. This will allow members to have additional time with their state associations prior to the NWATA business meeting.

Like any family reunion there will be time to get together, reminisce with, and celebrate our members during the Friday Night Awards ceremony and NWATA Social. Over the years, these collective events have become a cornerstone for our annual meeting. I look forward to seeing you all there and not only catching up, but cutting up as well.

This year’s meeting will also feature the 9th-annual Koto-Steele NWATA-District 10 Quiz Bowl. The NWATA Quiz Bowl has quickly become a packed room favorite each year as the competition becomes very spirited with school pride. Come watch as our 12 NWATA ATEP Programs compete for the coveted Koto-Steele Championship and the bragging rights to represent the NWATA-District 10 at this year’s NATA Quiz Bowl in New Orleans. Will MSU-Billings be able to defend their title? Will WSU make a comeback to reclaim the crown after 3-peating? Or will another exceptional program be crowned?  Last year I sported an MSU-Billings tie as well as Blue and Yellow socks at the National Competition proudly! Whose colors will I be representing this year? Please check the agenda and then come and show your support to our ATEP Students and cheer on your alma mater.

I am very excited about this year’s Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium and continue to thank you for the opportunity to represent you as the President and District Director. I would also like to personally thank the local organizing committee as well as our District Meeting, District Registration, and District Exhibit coordinators, Suzette, Greg Hill and Jen Krug respectively, who have worked tirelessly to prepare this event for you.

And to all of you, THANK YOU for the incredible service that you provide to your patients and institutions; you are the reason that the NWATA is GreAT!  I encourage you to attend this great annual event. If I can be of service to you in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me. See you in Portland!

Respectfully,

Tony Fitzpatrick, MA, LAT, ATC
