Make Commencement/Reunion Weekend 2012 a family vacation. This is a great opportunity to introduce your children or grandchildren to your alma mater. Oberlin College offers supervised recreational activities for children ages 4-12 on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Children will enjoy various activities on and off campus, which include touring the Little Red School House, a Recycled Products Co-Op art project, bowling, crafts, a musical instrument petting zoo at the Conservatory, an OCircus demonstration, an Indonesian Gong ensemble workshop, a media workshop through the Apollo Outreach Project, and much more!
Children should be dropped off and picked up at the Commencement/Reunion Welcome Center. Cost is $50.00 per day, and while lunch is included, it is recommended that you provide your child with a water bottle with choice of drink. Advance registration is required; please sign up on the online registration form and include your child’s name, age, and any special needs s/he may have (such as food allergies) or if s/he requires individualized attention.
On Sunday, May 27, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., a Children’s Pizza Dinner will be available in Wilder Hall for children ages 4-12 whose parents attend class/cluster dinners. Cost for the pizza dinner is $7.00. Please sign up on the online registration form. If your child is attending the Sunday Camp Oberlin session, arrangements can be made with the coordinators to have the children go directly to the pizza dinner.
If you have children who are too young for Camp Oberlin, please contact Kim Kosonovich in the Alumni Office at kim.kosonovich@oberlin.edu for a list of on-call babysitters. This list will also be available at the Welcome Center.
Traveling to Oberlin with your infant or young child may require some advance planning. Bring baby blankets since only two adult-sized blankets are provided. You may want to bring a stroller, as the dining halls have only a few highchairs. Children with sleeping bags in a parent's room are not charged. Please note that Oberlin no longer rents cribs for the weekend.
