Announcement of the Outstanding Professional Fundraiser for 2016
Sally Lawrence, CFRE, 2015 winner of the Outstanding Professional Fundraiser Award will make the announcement.
A Panel of Past Recipients
of the Outstanding Professional Fundraiser Award
Chris Baiocchi, CFRE, will moderate the panel. You may wonder about the career path that brought past recipients of the award to the “outstanding” achievement level. How did they get their start in fundraising? Most of us who have been in fund raising a long time did not have college classes or majors or get degrees in fundraising when we were young. Most of us entered the professional of fund development through a side door, somehow. We will ask our panelist how they got into the business. Was it their first career choice? What appealed to them about the profession? What was their first job? What year? What “transferable skills” really helped them to be successful? a background in marketing, sales? a background in accounting? How did they get “continuing education” about fundraising? Was AFP helpful? How was AFP helpful? What is the best advice these panel members can give to people new to the profession? This will be an exciting and informative presentation with the “back story” on how to be successful in our chosen profession.

Are You Ready to be a CFRE?
Expanding Your Involvement in the Activities
of AFP Orange County Chapter Through Committee Work
Are You Ready to be a CFRE?
CFRE stands for Certified Fund Raising Executive. The CFRE Credential provides you with a certification that recognizes you have met the standards of core knowledge of experienced fund raising professionals. To gain your CFRE Credential, you must have five years of experience, and meet the standards of both an application and a written examination. There are review courses offered to help you prepare for the examination. Five years seems like a long time, but it goes quicker than you think. Whenever you attend an AFP education session, you are earning credit toward your CFRE Certification. Our presenters today will describe the process to you and get you started on the path to recognition by your fund raising peers.
Expanding Your Involvement in the Activities of AFP Orange County Chapter Through Committee Work
We want to promote Committee Membership as a way of gaining greater benefit from your AFP Membership. Depending upon your interests and skills, review the list of Committees listed below and select one or more for consideration. Your long-term success in your chosen profession, fund raising, depends a lot on having relationships with other fund development professionals. Serving on a Committee is a good way to build these relationships, grow your skills in planning and committee-work, and networking with others. Later on in your career, you will find yourself saying: “I have a problem. I know ______, we sat on a committee together, I think I will call and ask her for her advice”. This is the way things happen in our profession, sharing and growing together. Here is a list of Committees. We will set up tables with a Committee member at each table for you to talk with.
