OERB Educators' Retreat-June 20, 21 & 22
OERB's 2012 Educators' Retreat will be held in Norman, Oklahoma on June 20, 21 and 22.
All OERB-trained teachers are invited to attend. Registration will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Educators will receive useful background information relating to the oil and natural gas industry, which will help them more effectively teach the OERB curriculum. OERB strives to make energy education exciting as well as valuable for teachers and students.
Tentative Itinerary:
June 20, 2012: Registration/check-in will begin at 4pm, followed by dinner and tours of the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History.
June 21, 2012: Attendees will visit the University of Oklahoma campus, and tour the Mewbourne College of Earth & Energy which includes a rig simulator and a geology lab.
Later in the day, the group will visit the Oklahoma Petroleum Information Center, houses in one location more than 100 miles of core from almost 10,000 Oklahoma wells, samples from some 50,000 wells, well logs, production reports, and other material vital to petroleum exploration and production.
Finally, the group will tour the National Weather Center and have dinner in the atrium.
June 22, 2012: The retreat will wrap up at the Museum of Osteology, which is OERB's new addition to the field trip program. Focusing on the form and function of the skeletal system, this 7000 square ft. museum displays hundreds of skulls and skeletons from all corners of the world. OERB will be offering a class at this museum, that the attendees will experience first-hand.
All accommodations will be provided by OERB, which includes meals, lodging and transportation. If you do not require lodging, you will be required to meet the group at the hotel at designated times and travel with the group all three days. Educators will receive 17 professional development hours during this retreat. All events must be attended in order to receive all professional development hours.
A $50 deposit is required in order to hold your reservation. Your credit card will not be charged, unless you cancel after June 8, 2012. This is required. Please note that extensive walking will be required. Once you are registered, you will receive a confirmation email. Once capacity is full, you will be able to join the waitlist. Waitlisted participants will be contacted if a spot becomes available.
