The European Green Deal envisages developing the “full potential of Europe’s offshore wind energy” to meet its carbon neutrality goals by 2050, and the European Commission (EC) plans to work out a dedicated offshore wind strategy this year. Policymakers in several countries have also put their weights behind offshore wind. Germany, the UK, and the Netherlands have increased their 2030 targets. Other countries such as France, Poland, Latvia. etc., have drawn up ambitious plans.
While offshore wind has captured the much-needed political support, several challenges remain in meeting the EC’s goals. A key bottleneck is the availability and development of grid infrastructure, both offshore and onshore. This challenge, however, presents the opportunity to deploy new and innovative technologies and calls for a coordinated approach to develop a robust offshore transmission infrastructure with all stakeholders involved.
Global Transmission Report is organising a virtual conference on Offshore Wind Transmission, Europe on July 28-29, 2020 to highlight the opportunities and discuss technologies and solutions for the development of the next wave of offshore wind transmission infrastructure in Europe.
The conference will provide an insight into the EC’s offshore wind strategy and the developments in the leading and new markets in the continent. It will also discuss the impact of COVID-19 on these plans and measures to ensure that long-term objectives are met.
The online event will bring together regulators, developers, TSOs, and industry experts to discuss the grid infrastructure gaps and needs in integrating large-scale offshore wind. They will present their perspectives, share experiences from early projects, and offer possible solutions. The conference will showcase technology options, optimal network configurations, and advances in offshore cables, substations and structures for upcoming projects. It will also provide insights into ideal techniques for construction, installation and monitoring of offshore links.Paid participants will receive a 20-page report on offshore wind transmission in Europe.
