In elderly patients, as in all patients, diabetes is much more than the blood glucose level. However, in elderly patients the disease accelerates other common conditions of that population and markedly complicates their management. The care of the aging patients with diabetes should be individualized, taking into account the patient's comorbidities, other medications, cognitive abilities, home care situation, and life expectancy.
