In elderly patients,
as in all patients, diabetes is much more than the blood glucose level.
However, in elderly patients the disease accelerates other common conditions of
that population and markedly complicates their management. The care of the
aging patients with diabetes should be individualized, taking into account the
patient's comorbidities, other medications, cognitive abilities, home care
situation, and life expectancy.
