This course meets the 8-hour CE requirement pertaining to the practice of dental hygiene needed to apply for an Oral Health Access Supervision Program (OHASP) permit through the Ohio State Dental Board.
In the State of Ohio, dental hygienists are now able to practice under certain conditions (e.g., in nursing homes, head start programs) without the dentist present under the OHASP. Dentists and dental hygienists must apply for an OHASP permit and numerous requirements must be met for this to happen. This course will review all of the requirements necessary to obtain an OHASP permit and update the participants on the populations that can be treated as well as record keeping and infection control updates.
In addition to completing this CE course, applicants must have the following before applying to the state for the OHASP permit: - Current Ohio RDH license - 1 year and 1,500 hours experience in the clinical practice of dental hygiene - Evidence of at least 24 hours of continuing dental education within the past 2 years - Evidence that you have completed a state approved 4-hr Medical Emergencies CE course within the last 2 years
Visit the Ohio State Dental Board website for details.
After completing this program participants will be able to: (1) Understand and provide dental hygiene services under the OHASP in accordance with the law. (2) Understand the ethical and legal considerations in treating geriatric, medically compromised, developmentally disabled and pediatric patients. (3) Adopt appropriate record keeping practices in accordance with the law. (4) Incorporate updated infection control into their practices.
