Message from the President

For 30 years the Pacific Northwest Vascular Society Annual Meeting has reflected the thought leadership in vascular surgery. On the shoulders of living legends in vascular surgery like Kaj Johansen and Toshio Inahara, society founders, our members match the commitment to excellence every day in the vascular surgery field.  When I attended my first conferences as a resident and fellow 25 years ago, I remember how it expanded my network and introduced patient care tools into my practice. As your 2017 president, I look forward to welcoming many familiar faces, new members, residents, industry partners and guests to The Nines in Portland, Oregon for the Pacific Northwest Vascular Society Annual Meeting November 2-3, 2017.

Dr. Matteson

I have invited Charles W. Acher from University of Wisconsin to be the 2017 Presidential Guest Lecturer. His clinical interests include prevention of ischemic spinal cord injury in the repair of thoraco-abdominal aneurysms (TAA), renal and visceral arterial occlusive disease, minimally invasive endovascular surgery, treatment of cerebral vascular occlusive disease for stroke prevention (carotid and subclavian revascularization), and limb salvage in severe vascular disease.

The meeting kicks off Thursday, November 2, 2017 with our annual ePoster session. Immediately following will be the Welcome Reception with a chance to network with peers and industry partners. In the vascular surgery tradition of embracing technological advances, we will host all the leading companies showcasing their products. A full day of dynamic scientific sessions full of debates, resident competitions and expert presentations on Friday, November 3 is promised by Program Chairman, Nam Tran, MD. We welcome you to submit an abstract to participate in this program until August 1, 2017.

At the time of the 2016 Annual Meeting, the membership consisted of 83 Active, 36 Resident/Student, and 24 Senior Members. Six new members were accepted into membership at the annual business meeting. As you register for the event, consider sending an invitation to the event a colleague (we've made it easy for you, within the registration process).  Help us keep the dream of the founders who believed that a small group of committed individual vascular surgeons gathering once a year could improve patient care in the Northwest. Do your part by sharing the PNWVS membership application that is available online.

Sincerely,

Brian Matteson, MD
PNWVS President
