Explore the latest technology advancements and best practices in the booming petrochemical industry
Gulf Publishing Company, publisher of Hydrocarbon Processing is pleased to announce the inaugural
Petchem Tech Forum (PTF) to be held July 19-20, 2016 in Houston, Texas at the Norris Conference Center – CityCentre. The US petrochemical industry is in the midst of one of the largest industry expansions to ever occur in North America. Cheap, readily available shale gas has provided chemical producers in the US with low-cost feedstocks, that is fueling over $135B in new petrochemical capacity. This includes capacity expansions, upgrades, plant restarts and greenfield facilities.
New capacity includes a sharp increase in the construction of ethane cracking and derivatives capacity, methanol and fertilizer (ammonia/urea) plants, and PDH units. This includes the announcement of nearly 18 MMtpy of additional ethylene capacity, 17 MMtpy of new methanol capacity, 4 MMtpy of new propylene capacity, and nearly $11B in new ammonia/urea plant construction.
According to the American Chemistry Council, gross exports of US chemical products will more than double from $60B in 2014 to $123B by 2030. Billions of dollars will be invested in the construction of pipelines, storage, terminals and export capacity through the end of the decade. Even as the drop in crude oil prices have made naptha crackers in places like Asia and Europe more competitive, US ethane crackers still maintain a competitive advantage.
