Summary

This program is designed for hematologists, oncologists, hospital pharmacists, nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. New clinically relevant research findings are reported each year. While community oncologists may learn about these findings in a timely manner, it may take months before strategies to effectively put this new knowledge into practice are developed. This conference will provide opportunities to focus on the most clinically relevant new research findings and to better understand how to apply this information in specific patient cases. There will be a brief discussion over lunch on case rates for certain treatment regimens and the methodologies for these case rates. 

Objectives: 

• Prescribe appropriate maintenance therapy in follicular lymphoma.
• Describe the role of interim PET scans and their potential impact on treatment decision-making in diffuse large 
  B-cell lymphoma.
• Explain how pomalidomide is different from lenalidomide in the treatment of relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma.
• Discuss the role of gene microarray studies in the risk stratification of newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients.
• Diagnose and manage anti-phospholipid syndrome, heparin induced thrombocytopenia, other thrombotic disorders, and hemolytic uremic syndrome. 
• Design a management strategy for improving outcomes in patients with myelodysplastic syndrome.
• Explain how risk-stratification affects treatment selection and outcomes in newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia patients.
